What personal information does it detect?
The AI scans for email addresses, phone numbers, person names, dates, physical addresses, and identification numbers such as Social Security and passport numbers. AI detection can miss or misclassify information, so review the results before downloading.
Is my document sent to a server?
The DOCX file stays on your device. After you consent, extracted document text, comments, revisions, and review author details are sent to OpenAI for analysis. The request uses store: false, so OpenAI does not save it as Responses API application state. OpenAI may still retain API data in abuse-monitoring logs for up to 30 days.
Is the redaction permanent?
For supported document locations, selected text is replaced with [REDACTED] in the DOCX structure rather than visually covered. Comments are removed and tracked changes are accepted. The tool does not currently cover text boxes, hidden text, image content, macros, or embedded objects, so review the exported file before sharing it.
Can I choose what to redact?
Yes. After the AI scan, you can enable or disable each detected category. For example, you can keep dates while redacting names.
What AI model is used?
PII detection uses GPT-5.6 Luna through OpenAI's Responses API. Requests use store: false. OpenAI does not use API data for model training unless the API account holder opts in, but it may retain API data in abuse-monitoring logs for up to 30 days.
